Daniel's Maiden Voyage
of the
~ Radio Shack Special ~
![]()
I extend my congratulations to you, Sir Daniel, for staying true and relentlessly pursing the project all the way through. Without knowing 'hands-on' experience at all, you went all the way from 'novice' to a truely certified 'amatuer' in less than 2 weeks! It isn't the knowlegde that makes or breaks a project, but by vast determination and relentless efforts to pursue the voyage to its' very end. And along the way... knowledge is naturally gained.
Again, it is with great honor I bestow to you Sir Daniel...for keeping 'heads-up' thoughout the challenged task at hand!
...your friend, Patrick
...so without further ado, here are Daniel's pictures and text of his 'very first" electronic project...
Hi...
I built the Radio Shack Special as my very first electronics' project. I had never made a PCB or soldered. To me, building the PCB was the hardest part. Soldering seemed pretty easy, but I soon found out that making a 'good' solder was a bit of a challenge.
Building the RSS was fun and very easy to understand with Patrick's nice 'website instructions'. He was very helpful through e-mail and I learned a lot during the 'build' that I can use for building more projects...which I plan to do.
Even
though I thought I had finished, something was wrong... it didn't
work. I e-mailed Patrick (which I had been doing throughout the
construction) and we found out there was a short circuit. I fixed
it and the unit still didn't work
Other culprits we found were the SOURCE and DRAIN Coils, which had not been soldered on correctly. After doing everything I could at my home, I sent the unit away to Patrick. He looked at it and found two faulty solder joints. After he fixed them, he e-mailed me back saying that it worked perfect and that I had done a good job on it...
SUCCESS ! ! !
...Daniel
