Eloy Juniors' Maiden Voyage of the...

Shortwave

Receiver

Project !

I always wanted to make a shortwave receiver. It was Patricks' design that I did...

I used the can of liquid yogurt to make the coil. I refilled with silicon the longitudinal slots it had and covered with paper.

Over the paper I used a tape with the sticky face upward. In the beginning it did not work. The culprit was one of the batteries...and as soon as I replaced it, the receiver started to cry.

The antenna was a simple wire of about three meters in length, to which I had attached a lead weight to the extreme end in order to keep it straight when I tossed it away from the balcony.

The signal was not to high and then I put a mobile ferrite rod inside the coil. The receiver only caught the local AM broadcast band...but in a strong way.

Back to my house, I tried the receiver with a 25 meter antenna that I have on the roof. It did not work at first. It was again the battery!

Without the ferrite rod, I caught English, French, Portuguese and Arab broadcast!

This picture shows the large knob on the tuning capacitor, which made it easier for fine tuning.

I am very happy with the project!

And Here Are a Couple of Pictures of the Antenna

Thank you Eloy Junior for taking on such a wonderful project...as it should give you many years of beautiful words and music!
